August 2 - 13, 2004 there took place the Summer Institute for Russian Culture (SIRC-2004) organized for foreign specialists in slavistics and Russian culture.

SIRC-2004 took place on the basis of GASIS (the State Academy of Specialists in the Investment Sphere) under information sponsorship by the Russian Information Agency Novosti.

This year SIRC students came from USA, Finland, Spain, Greece, and Peru. All of them unanimously asserted that they were introduced to the most impressive and extraordinary interesting program.

SIRC-2004 program was not only extremely saturated (56 hours of lectures, more than 20 hours of master-classes, creative labs, and workshops) but also notable for the highest professional level of lectors and guests of the Summer Institute.

The SIRC-2004 program covered 7 major topics:

  • Rebirth of Russian Cinema: 1995-2004 - Kirill Razlogov, Cinematography specialist, Doctor of Arts, Professor, Distinguished Figure in the Arts of Russia, member of the Russian Cinematography Academy, member of the Board of Directors of Union of Cinematographers of Russia, Director of the Russian Institute for Cultural Studies, Program Director for the Moscow International Films Festival

  • Actual Issues of Russian Literature at the Turn of the 20th and 21st Century - Andrei Nemzer, Literary critic, Professor, Member of the Writer's Union, Observer for the Newspaper ()

  • Theater in Modern Russia - Alexey Bartoshevitch, Doctor of Arts, Professor, Distinguished Figure in the Science of Russia, Head of the Contemporary Art Dept. (State Institute of Arts Research), Stanislavsky Award Laureate

  • Modern Russian and Speech Etiquette - Maxim Kronhaus, Specialist in Russian, pragmatics, semantics and speech etiquette, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor, Russian Department Head at RGGU, Director of RGGU's Linguistics Institute

  • Russian Architecture in the Post-Soviet Period - Grigory Revzin, Architectural critic, Chief Editor of the Magazine (), Candidate of the Arts, Observer for the Daily

SIRC-2004 students also attended Mosfilm premises to see the new film «Goddess: How I Have Fallen in Love» (producer and script writer - Renata Litvinova), participated in creative workshops by the producer, script-writer and actress Renata Litvinova, producer Elena Yatsura, poet Timur Kibirov, visited the artistic studio of the artist Oleg Kulick, went on the Sunday excursion on today's Moscow architecture with Grigory Revzin.
